チョルガッシュ、ゴールドマン、無政府主義 Leon Czolgosz, Emma Goldman, and Anarchism in America

ひとつ前の記事「合衆国と日本が戦争するとか大統領が暗殺されるとかロックフェラー氏がジョン・グリアー孤児院に100万ドル遺贈した場合　In Case War Breaks Out Between the United States and Japan, or the President Is Assassinated , or Mr. Rockefeller Leaves a Million Dollars to the John Grier Hom　[Daddy-Long-Legs]」（タイトル長ッｗ）で言及したウィキペディアの記事「マッキンリー大統領暗殺事件」にも書かれているように、マッキンリー大統領を1901年9月に暗殺したチョルガッシュは、無政府主義者エマ・ゴールドマンに共鳴するところがあり、5月、6月にゴールドマンと会っています。ゴールドマンは暗殺関与の嫌疑をかけられて逮捕・拘留されることになります。

Emma Goldman, 1869-1940 (c. 1911)

    エマ・ゴールドマンは、1885年に姉とともにニューヨークに出てきたロシア移民で、縫製工場で働きだすのですが、翌年5月のシカゴでのヘイマーケット暴動 Haymarket Riot （ヘイマーケット広場における労働者集会で、警官隊に何者かが爆弾を投げて多数の死傷者が出た事件で、無政府主義者7人が死刑を宣告されました。労働運動を指導していた労働騎士団 Knights of Labor がアメリカ労働総同盟 AFL=American Federation of Labor に指導権を譲るきっかけになります）ののち無政府主義運動に惹かれ、自らアナキズムの文筆家・運動家となり、1892年には "propaganda by the deed (propagande par le fait)" として Henry Clay Frick の暗殺を計画し、投獄されます。女権論運動にも関わる人で、1906年創刊の雑誌『母なる大地 Mother Earth』によって「日本のフェミニスト、とりわけ伊藤野枝に大きな影響を与えた」ことなど、日本語ウィキペディアの「エマ・ゴールドマン」を参照。
