放浪への渇え、放浪欲 Wander-Thirst, Wanderlust

マイナーな記事「彷徨の渇望　Wanderthirst」のつづきです。 

The Lied and Art Song Text Page の"Wander-thirst (Gould, set by A. Baynon, H. Davies, G. Peel, L. Ronald)" によれば、Gerald Gould が1906年の詩集 Lyrics で発表した "Wander-thirst" を詞として、いくつも歌が作られたようです。

　　1910年のGraham Peel (1879-1937) の曲、1915年のHenry Walford Davies (1859-1941)、1923年のLandon Ronald (1873-1938)、1935年のArthur Baynon (1889?-1954) など。

　　YouTube で wander-thirst で検索をかけると、The Hall Brothers というフォーク・デュオの2001年のアルバム　Time and Tragedy 所収の "The Wander Thirst" がヒットします。――

   投稿者による説明に、「歌詞は昔の社会主義の詩」（"the words are an old socialist poem"）と書かれていてちょっと驚いたのですが、この詩の内容自体はともかく、Gerald Gould は政治的なスタンスをとった人のようで、奥さんは婦人参政論者 (suffragette) のBarbara Bodichon Ayrton (1888-1950) だったりします（"Gerald Gould," Wikipedia）。そういうところジーン・ウェブスターにとっては関係あるんでしょうか。不明です。

　

　　つぎの、子供たちのパフォーマンスは、歌詞の内容を超えて政治的だとは思われませんけれど。

    タイトルがつづり間違っていますけれど、上のThe Hall Brothers と同様に、本文中の原詩で wanderlust のところを wanderthirst にして歌って（吟じて）いますね。
